10:37 am - driving volvos, appeasing leprechauns Last night, Kate held an impromptu wine and cheese at her house. Having churned out an introductory paper on Giorgio Agamben's The Open and presented it for a seminar earlier that day, I didn't feel much like going. But after stowing chocolate-sable logs and chocolate-chip-cookie dough in the fridge, I popped in my contacts, smeared on a little lipstick, and scrambled up town to her house. I hadn't had such a great time in ages. Maybe I've been working too hard. I don't know. Kate opened the door, and I poked my head into a room full of the philosophy and politics boys I banter with every day. Even with wine, crackers, and offensively blue cheese, we still couldn't drag our talk away from departmental gossip and philosophy. I laughed pretty hard all night. I know I'm always saying that I just want to get the fuck out of this town next year, that doing an MA here would probably kill me, but I'll miss these kids a lot.

04:03 pm - letting be It's just the day for sipping hot chocolate from a spoon and loving what you do again. The one thing I ever learned from J.S-Y was how to make good hot chocolate. The secret is in the almond extract. Bless his dastardly little heart.
